Manchester Marathon and Yorkshire 3 Peaks 2024

Sally's 3 Peak Bed Race Marathon Challenge!

Sally's 3 Peak Bed Race Marathon Challenge!

My Story

UPDATE 2!

Well my 2 stage challenge became a 3 stage challenge as Team Henchshaws got a late entry to the infamous Great Knaresborough Bed Race on June 9th. My long, slow, flat marathon training runs were very little help in tackling the short, fast, hilly race (pushing a bed!) which finished with a swim across the River Nidd. But what a fantastic day it was.

So, onto my final challenge (for now!) - the Yorkshire 3 Peaks this Saturday 13th July. The weather forecast is looking good at the moment (but we all know how quickly that can change) and I have a good stock of wine gums and squishies to keep me going. Just need to add in some pork pie and I'll be set.

I'm looking forward to meeting up with all my fellow walkers for a cracking day out. Last year's 12 hours is the time to beat!!  Less chatting maybe....

UPDATE!

Stage One of my challenge is complete 🎉 It was a dry day (who can believe that!) in Manchester. The first half of the marathon went really well, I was ahead of plan, but the last 10km was tough. My legs hurt! So, fell just short of my 5 hour target but very happy to finish in 5:15. Now for a little rest before starting some hill training!

As I emptied the rainwater out of my boots at the end of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge in 2023 I seem to remember saying never again! Yet here I am, about to take on the 24 miles and 5,000 feet of the 3 Peaks once more. My goal is to beat the 12 hours it took me last year.

I completed the Great North Run for Henshaws in 2022 and ticked that off my bucket list. For 2024 I'm going one step (well quite a few steps!) further. As well as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, I am running the Manchester Marathon on April 14th.  It's been 15 years since I last ran a marathon (I said never again then too!) and my goal is to finish in 5 hours.

This is a huge challenge for me and I've been out pounding the streets around Knaresborough for a good few months now. My longest training run, 21 miles, is in the bag and I'm now keeping my legs going until the big day.

I am taking on this double challenge and doing something amazing for the 250 people who start to lose their sight every day in the UK! I am also supporting the many people with various disabilities that Henshaws helps to lead more independent lives.

Thank you for supporting me, it really does mean a lot and will keep me going in the last few miles of both events.
